Disappointment

Tonight I took my 10 year old son to see Simple Plan in concert at the John Labatts Centre in London Ontario.... unfortunately we only stayed for two songs once Simple Plan took to the stage.
My son was sooooo excited to see his first concert and he chose to see Simple Plan, but when we took our seats we ended up being behind an extremely large woman who decided to stand the entire concert, and ended up blocking my our entire view of the stage!!!! We switched seats between the two of us and he STILL couldn't see the stage.... The TERRIBLE staff at the JLC told us there was nothing they could do about the fact that the woman would not sit down (even though not only myself, but the complete stranger sitting next to us repeatedly asked her to sit because she was making it impossible for my son to see the stage). After the second song, we left at my son's request because he was disappointed with the entire experience and said at least when he's at home he can watch Simple Plans videos on the computer or television.
So, after spending the money on the tickets, well over $100 on Simple Plan merchandise at the concert, plus parking and travel, we wasted $300 so that my son could be thoroughly disappointed with his first concert experience. He rode home in silence :(
I realize that it's not the fault of the band, the situation was completely out of their control....but I thought perhaps they should know that their fans sometimes receive the raw end of the deal when all they want to do is enjoy their concerts!!!

I don't get it. I've been to concert where you have to stand up to see anything.. It's just the way it goes. Happens all the time. You should have stayed and enjoyed the music
What I don't get is.. why you left. You're there for the music, you can still hear it. I'm sorry that you couldn't see, but isn't the reason you're there to listen to them play?
I think you shouldn´t write down here ... it´s really bad your experience but i can get your point ... you should have tried to enjoy the concert ... no matter what .... it´s your choice ... the band can´t do anything !!.... and a Simple Plan´s Concerts are the best thing in the whole world
I kinda agree with @MediaDarling I actually didnt know that people sat in their seats anymore...Even when I went to a GreenDay Concert, no one sat in their seat, same with Taste Of Chaos, Shaina Twain, (these were all concerts I had seats for).
Im sorry you had a crap experience. But have you been to a concert like this before? The only reasons the sell seat tickets is because you cant have EVERYONE on the floor...that would really suck! Thatd be too many people. Its like an unwritten rule that even in seats you stand for the whole concert, cause youre kinda dancing, partying, and enjoying the concert.
It might be cause your son is 10 now...but in a few years if he has seat tickets again to something hell probably be standing, and jumping too.
But really the Band has nothing to do with this, and the girl in front of you was obvious a Simple Plan fan too, and she didnt get a raw end of any deal...Its all how you deal with it.
Heck, during All Time Low, I was shoved from my spot, and fought my way back to my friends, and forced myself to have a good time, I wasnt going to allow two girls to ruin my night. And sadly, it allowed others to ruin your concert experience.
Hi Melissa, I have another thought.
I'm not sure what city you are from, but the same show is being presented again tonight in Kitchener, at the Memorial Auditorium.
I have no idea if there are still tickets. Or whether or not you and your son are available tonight.
If you are free tonight, maybe call the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium, and see if they have any tickets in front rows of sections, or in areas where you won't have somebody standing in front of you (ie: right above one of the exits, or right at the front of a section).
Yes, it will cost you another $100 to go again tonight.
But if I were your 10 year old kid and I came home from school today and you told me we were going to the concert again tonight, but this time with nobody standing in front of me, I would think you were the best mom ever, and I would forget all about the John Labatt Centre experience.
And I would wear the T shirt you bought me last night, proudly.
If the two venues were owned by the same guy, you might have been able to get the owners to comp tonight's tickets, but unfortunately the John Labatt Centre is operated by Comcast (a division of CBS Broadcating) and the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium is owned and operated by the city of Kitchener.
Or, hey if any of the Simple Plan team members are seeing this post and Melissa's concerns, maybe you could actually arrange to comp her tickets for tonight, if there are any in areas with nobody standing in front.
Or if the SP team members do see this, maybe somebody could look Melissa up (I'm sure that the JLC has her phone number), and do something nice for this 10 year old kid who is so disappointed....
But that being said, I still agree with my earlier post, that people standing up at a concert is the norm, but I'm just a nice guy and don't want to see a kid disappointed like this.
And I also work in marketing and see this an opportunity to turn around a bad customer experience, which is something I do in my job when necessary.
I am very sorry that your son was disappointed in his 1st concert experience. I was at that concert last night too at John Labatt Centre.
And I have been at many other concerts too, over my lifetime.
At every concert I have ever been to, people in front of us stand up, to dance at their seat, and to have a good time.
I remember too, at my first concert ever (which was The Spoons at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1982), when people in front of me stood up, I was annoyed for 30 seconds, but then I just stood up too, and enjoyed the concert better standing up and bopping along to the music.
It is very sad that the staff at JLC didn't assist you better.
Where we were seated last night was in section 113, which was the last section on the south side that was in use for the concert. Less than half the tickets in that section were sold, so there was plenty of un-obstructed seats in our section, where you and your son could have moved to, and remained seated without anybody blocking your view.
The person at the JLC should have listened to your concern, and they should have helped you and your son to just relocate to the areas I mentioned, where you two could have had an enjoyable time while seated, without anybody standing in front of you.
I would encourage you to contact the JLC, ask for a manager, and let them know about your experience, and feel free to offer my suggestion to them. Allowing them an opportunity to learn from the way the person you talked to, handled it.
You would not have been able to just relocate into our section without a JLC person approving the change and helping you, so they dropped the ball in my view.
Had the concert been sold out, there would have been no other seats to move you to.
My brother didn't like concerts either, because of the people standing in front of him, but what he does now, is he only buys tickets that are in the front row of a section, so that there is nobody in front of him.
Standing at your seat at a concert, is normal.
Awww.... It's fine. This happened to me, too but I stood up in my chair so I could see SP.
I understand your dissapointment, but I don't feel sorry for you. As much as I LOVE that your son wanted to see SP as his first concert, the lady in front of you...and ALL the people around you payed JUST as much as you did have the right to enjoy the show as well. Nobody goes to a concert to sit down the whole time. That girl had EVERY right to enjoy the show in her own way. Perhaps you haven't been to many shows yourself, but people standing, jumping etc is to be expected. Perhaps the staff at the venue could have tried to do more for you, but these are the seats YOU bought. You didn't HAVE to leave after 2 songs, that was your choice. I feel it is totally unfair for you to come on here and say that they should know their fans get the "raw" end of the deal. This had NOTHING to do with them....AT AL or how they interact with their fans. I'm not trying to sound like a b!tch or anything but you should have known what you were getting into. If I was that girl...i wouldn't have sat down either...
